Elon Musk has reportedly purchased a $35 million estate in Austin, Texas, designed to house his growing family of eleven children and their mothers. The billionaire’s sprawling compound includes multiple mansions, providing adjoining properties for his children to grow up together and for Musk to schedule time with them, according to insiders.
The estate, styled after Tuscan villas, includes a 14,000-square-foot main house and at least one six-bedroom mansion. Musk’s goal, sources say, is to create a centralized living arrangement for his children and their mothers, including Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink. Zilis, who shares three children with Musk, has reportedly already moved into one of the mansions.
A Bold Plan for a Blended Family
Musk, who has often spoken out about the dangers of depopulation, has framed his personal life as part of a broader mission to ensure a robust future generation. However, the logistics of uniting his family under one roof are complicated by his tumultuous relationships.
Zilis welcomed twins, Strider and Azure, in 2021 and a third child in 2023 with Musk. The Neuralink executive is reportedly supportive of the move to Austin. Meanwhile, Musk hopes his former partner, Claire Boucher—better known as the musician Grimes—will join the compound with their three children. However, the pair are currently embroiled in a custody dispute, potentially delaying any relocation plans.
Grimes and Musk’s children include X AE A-XII, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Tau Techno Mechanicus. The custody battle adds tension to the prospect of a harmonious family arrangement.
Challenges and Family Dynamics
Musk’s family dynamic has also been strained by a public falling-out with his transgender daughter, Vivian Wilson, who changed her name and stated she wanted no relationship with her father. Musk has five other adult children from his first marriage to Justine Musk: twins Vivian and Griffin, 20, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian, 18.
Despite these complexities, Musk reportedly wants to make space for all his children, regardless of age, to visit the estate.
A Vision of Togetherness Amid Controversy
Sources suggest Musk sees the estate as a way to foster closeness among his children while accommodating his busy schedule. When he is in Texas, Musk reportedly stays in a mansion just a 10-minute walk from the new compound.
However, the billionaire’s plan has been met with skepticism, particularly given past tensions within his family. Grimes was reportedly blindsided when she learned Musk had fathered twins with Zilis via IVF while she was pregnant with their second child. Musk reportedly compounded the rift by giving one of Zilis’ children a name he and Grimes had planned for their daughter.
A Family in Flux
Despite the challenges, the estate underscores Musk’s desire to bring his family closer together under one roof. Whether this vision becomes a reality remains to be seen, but the move highlights Musk’s unique approach to balancing his personal and professional life.
With a $270 billion fortune and a focus on building a legacy, Musk’s decision to invest in this compound reflects his broader goals of ensuring his family’s future—while navigating the complexities of modern relationships.
